One of our largest private commissions came from the highly successful business couple Rod and Sheila Flavell. They had decided to demolish their property overlooking Brighton Marina and replace it with a purpose-built home.
The first task we were asked to make was a pair of bespoke wardrobes.
At our meeting these turned into Walnut walk-in wardrobes, where we divided the space up for how Rod and Sheila live, Rod has a mixture of hanging space and drawers, Sheila has plenty of hanging space for dresses and drawers and a section for shoes.
Second on the list was furniture for their separate offices allowing them to work in different time zones. We made walnut-panelled bookshelves for Rod, and a eucalyptus desk and chest of drawers for Sheila.
A third commission followed which was a eucalyptus bookcase to match their existing bed and bedside table followed – with the team at 1718 suggesting that it doubled as the bed’s headboard, making the most of the room’s impressive space.
The skills of our team were then called upon again and this time we went on to create a large walnut wall panel for the TV room, with a mixture of display case and storage and of course to integrate the TV.
We then went on to fully fit-out the wine room in Ash, this is our favourite room, the concrete sink is sunning and works well with the Ash timber.
To cap the project of we were challenged to make a beautiful bar with smoked glass shelves for the snooker room.
The challenge being that this sat against a curved wall, after carefully templating the space the unit was made in sections then installed.
Sheila Flavell: “Having the opportunity to create everything you’ve always wanted in a home; you need people you can trust to deliver the very best in craftsmanship. Michael Mancini and the 1718 team always rise to the challenge for us – everything is created with loving care and an extraordinary eye for detail.”
