Bringing Scottish Luxury to Hong Kong
We enjoy working with other artisans at the top of their craft, and it’s a particular honour when we get the chance to work with esteemed Scottish associates we admire.
Just as the pandemic hit the world and the UK went into lockdown, a business called Glencraft was asked to create a showroom of Scottish bedroom furnishings for a Hong Kong-based retailer – DPM Home.
Founded in Aberdeen in 1843, Glencraft has a Royal Warrant for its beautifully crafted luxury mattresses, famed for gracing the rooms in Balmoral. They required help to create a full bespoke collection, comprising a hero bed frame, side bed frame, bench, reception desk, tea trolley, two nightstands and two swivel chairs.
Graham McWilliam, the then Managing Director at Glencraft, contacted us, we looked at the order and created designs for the full collection, deciding on oak with a traditional feel. We used leather from the luxury Scottish tanners Muirhead (who were founded in Glasgow around the same time as Glencraft), and fabric from the small, picturesque, Scottish island of Bute.

However, I immediately thought of Michael Mancini and 1718, and knew they would be perfect for the project. The collection that we have made together for DPM Home is a beautiful showcase of bespoke artistry and craft all made here in Scotland.”

As of now, the collection is on show in Hong Kong, and preparations are in place to supply subsequent orders. This collaboration was fantastic to be a part of and we look forward to our future, where we can continue to work with passionate craftspeople from all over Scotland.
